THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN

A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS

The band’s second album, originally released in 1968, was the first album to feature David Gilmour who replaced Syd Barrett on guitar and vocals. UMMAGUMMA

From 1969, Ummagumma was the band’s first double album and has one of their most iconic cover images. Ummagumma is an eclectic mix of both live and studio recordings. ATOM HEART MOTHER

Pink Floyd’s first UK number 1 album was released in 1970. This was the band’s first recording with an orchestra, the title track ‘The Atom Heart Mother Suite’ taking up a full side of the original vinyl release. MEDDLE

From 1971 Meddle is widely regarded as Pink Floyd’s first concept album, introducing the idea of a theme that can be returned to. The album features the seminal track Echoes that filled a complete side of the original vinyl release. OBSCURED BY CLOUDS

1972 again saw the band collaborate with filmmaker Barbet Schroeder to create the soundtrack to the film La Vallee, becoming the band’s seventh studio album Obscured By Clouds. THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

Originally released in 1973, The Dark Side of The Moon became Pink Floyd’s first number 1 album in the US, remaining on the chart for 741 weeks between 1973 and 1988. One of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed albums of all time, The Dark Side of The Moon also introduced the iconic album cover artwork by Hipgnosis, after a request for a ‘simple and bold’ design. WISH YOU WERE HERE

On its release in 1975 Wish You Were here topped the album charts in both the UK and the US. Reflecting the band’s thoughts of the time on the music business, and exploring themes of absence, Wish You Were Here contains the classic cut Shine On You Crazy Diamond, a tribute to founder member Syd Barrett. ANIMALS

Featuring the striking cover image of a pig floating above London’s Battersea Power Station, Animals from 1977 provides an analysis of the social-political society of 1970’s Britain, and was also created as a response to the punk rock movement of the time. THE WALL

One of the most acclaimed concept albums of all time, The Wall is renowned as Roger Waters’ Rock Opera dealing with abandonment and personal isolation. Featuring the unique artwork of Gerald Scarfe, the album also yielded the US & UK No. 1 hit Another Brick In The Wall Pt2., and was subsequently adapted for cinema by Alan Parker featuring Bob Geldof in the lead role.
