Shlohmo - The End (Single Review)

L.A producer Shlohmo aka Henry Laufer, is back with his first piece of official solo work since last year’s Wen 222 single. Alongside this absolute jam of a single is the announcement of a brand new album set to be released March 22nd this year. Both are aptly named The End, but honestly after the way this track flows fans will be wanting anything but an “end” to Shlohmo’s work. Renowned for his dark hip/hop rnb infused beats, this track is nothing short of his signature style mixed with filthy guitars and moody undertones.

In short, it is nothing but incredible producing.

Bursting with confidence at the seams, the track opens with a grimy sub-bass and distorted chimes that soon coincide with filtered guitar chords and synths. Already setting the unsettling atmosphere an arrangement of hi hats and snares join with a build and drop of the sub-base. It’s low-key, yet it is every bit as dark as it should be. Spacey synths vibe in and out as the bass continues to whirr in the background, only ever taking the backseat for powerful and loud guitar chords. When all these sounds eventually come together it is pure controlled chaos, and Shlohmo is in total control.

Listening to this track you gain the understanding of why artists such as Tory Lanez and Joji have had this talented producer on board. His beats do provide a level of dark emotion and vividness that few in the game can replicate. Laufer is a perfectionist at ensuring the layers in his work are all equally integral to making the song whole, hence why The End does possess a certain level of energy and emotion. This single if anything is just a taste of what is to come in under a month’s time, but as we wait The End is a track I will have on repeat in eager anticipation.
